The Board of Directors

Julian Penniston-Hill
Chief Executive

 

Julian entered the financial sector in the 1990s and has experience across the industry. Prior to establishing Intelligent Money Julian was Investment Management Director at Willis Owen, responsible for generating and maintaining a £1bn portfolio of client asset.

 

Julian has been quoted widely in the national press (Financial Times, Daily and Sunday Telegraph, Sunday Times, Mail on Sunday, Independent, Guardian and Observer), interviewed for various broadcast programmes (including BBC Moneybox, ITN News, Channel 4 and LBC) and is a regular investment commentator for the BBC.

 

He was also consulted in Parliament by the Treasury Select Committee, the Pension Minister and Shadow Pension Minister on the proposals for Automatic Enrolment.

Chris Sutton
Managing Director

 

Chris has over 30 years of all-encompassing experience in the financial industry.

 

After more than a decade working with Life Companies, Chris moved into asset management with Fidelity and then spent 11 years with JP Morgan, becoming Vice President, UK Sales. Having already established a shareholding, he moved to Intelligent Money in 2009 to run our UK sales and  strategic relationships. Chris is also credited with developing our auto enrolment compliant group proposition.

 

As Managing Director – and the second largest managing shareholder – Chris brings unparalleled experience, expertise and insight to Intelligent Money and the advisory firms working with us.

Marcus Waldram
Executive Director

 

Marcus joined Intelligent Money in 2006 with vast technical and systems experience as a senior SIPP portfolio manager running SIPP and SSAS books covering all HMRC asset classes.

 

He specialises in HMRC technical understanding and provides SIPP and Group SIPP product development for us and our partners. Prior to joining Intelligent Money Marcus ran the SIPP books of AWD Chase de Vere.

 

Marcus has full responsibility for all technical developments and works closely with Alex White (see below) on all technical integration and strategic issues. Marcus is also the joint-third largest managing shareholder of the company.

Alan Reynolds
Executive Director

 

Alan has nearly 40 years of experience in the financial sector across all disciplines and specialises in all aspects of regulatory and compliance matters.

 

Having originally been a compliance consultant to the firm, Alan joined Intelligent Money on a permanent basis in 2008 and was appointed Director at the beginning of 2009.

 

Before the appointment of Ian Stewart (below) Alan had full responsibility for all compliance and regulatory issues within the firm. Today he works closely with Ian advising the board on strategic expansion in context with FCA developments.

Jeff Penniston
Executive Director

 

Jeff took over the running of Intelligent Money’s finance and banking in February 2008 after spending 30 years managing his own business interests in the UK, across Europe and globally.

 

He has many years of experience in business management and particularly the financial sector, primarily working in corporate recovery with the larger accountancy firms (including KPMG, Begbies Traynor and Kroll).

 

Jeff now oversees the financial aspects of all corporate activity and has full responsibility for financial modelling and reporting to the board and our shareholders.

Executive & Investment Management

Ian Stewart
Compliance Officer

 

Ian has over 20 years of financial services experience progressing from an adviser role through to senior management and business consultancy in both large corporates and SME businesses.

 

He is experienced in direct sales and marketing, banking and financial advisory enviroments and has been appointed to carry out project work for Morgan Stanley, Secure Trust and Pru Protect.

 

With nearly a decade of compliance experience Ian now has responsibility for Intelligent Money's compliance and works closely with Alan Reynolds (above) to ensure we meet and exceed all of our regulatory responsibilities.

Tim Horrocks
Investment Manager

 

Tim runs the investment management and asset allocation models for Intelligent Money’s IM Optimum Portfolios and auto-enrolment compliant Default Portfolio on behalf of Quilter Cheviot, which he joined in 1999.

 

He has over 25 years of financial services experience having previously worked at Albert E Sharp and Henderson Crosthwaite.

 

Tim is a Chartered Fellow of The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Chartered Wealth Manager.

Sales & Development Directors

Adrian Sims
Strategic Development Director

 

Adrian started his financial services career as a graduate trainee with Clerical Medical where he progressed through a series of roles including Sales Manager, Regional Manager, National Account Manager, Head of National Accounts and Business Development.

 

He was better know to many advisers as the face of NEST, where as Intermediary Relationship Manager he presented adviser web broadcasts and roadshows. After leaving NEST Adrian joined Capita Employee Benefits as Business Development Manager,advising on auto enrolment compliance with new and existing clients.

 

Adrian joined Intelligent Money in 2014 and works with advisers implimenting auto enrolment solutions for their corporate clients.

Paul Healey
Sales Director

 

Paul has over 30 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to joining Intelligent Money he spent 7 years working in sales and management for Aegon and has held similar roles at Save & Prosper, Prudential Holborn, NPI and Scottish Equitable.

 

He has accumulated vast experience in the corporate pensions market and his highly detailed technical knowledge has resulted in him delivering very large schemes and project managing large asset migration plans for advisers.

 

Paul brings his proven track record delivering proactive solutions for advisers to Intelligent Money as our Sales Director.

Pavan Varma
Business Development Director

 

Pav has over 20 years experience working in the investment management industry. He graduated in 1991 and joined what is now Aviva, working in sales and distribution.

 

During the course of his career he has held Sales Director positions for a variety of asset managers including Morley, Jupiter, Morgan Stanley and BDO Stoy Hayward.

 

Pav has experience of delivering investment solutions across the UK market through financial advisers, global private banks, family offices and discretionary managers. He has an in depth knowledge and understanding of the UK intermediary market, specialising in investment solutions utilising our IM Optimum Portfolios.

Senior Management & Department Heads

Lisa Garner-Morgan
HR & General Manager

 

Lisa has 20 years experience in Human Resources, the last 16 of which incorporated payroll accountancy, including a 4 year appointment as Finance Director for a SME.

 

She took a position at Intelligent Money’s accountants in 2005 and having been increasingly focused on working with us over the years made a permanent move to join Intelligent Money in April 2012.

 

Lisa has been responsible for all aspects of HR within the company, including the running of our large monthly SIPP drawdown payroll, and in 2015 her contribution to Intelligent Money was fully recognised when she was officially appointed office General Manager.

Alex White
Head of Operations

 

Alex graduated from Nottingham University with a first class (Hons) degree in Mathematics. He joined Intelligent Money immediately upon graduation after comprehensively winning our graduate trainee position. Within a year Alex was fast tracked into technical operations and within two years he was placed in a operations management role.

 

Today Alex is our Head Operations and is responsible for implementing technology driven operation solutions for Intelligent Money and its clients.

 

He works with internal and external coders and software developers to ensure our technology is fluid, functional and soundly integrated. Alex also advises the board on software strategy from an end user perspective.

Hayley Hutchinson
Head of New Business

 

Hayley graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a first class (Hons) degree in English. She joined Intelligent Money after securing our 2010/2011 graduate trainee position.

 

After her first year of intensive, hands on training Hayley developed a new framework to manage our new business and transfer-in procedures and was given the responsibility of building and running a dedicated team.

 

Today Hayley is our Head of New Business with complete responsibility for running and managing her team and advising the board on new business developments and strategy.

Charlotte McMahon
Head of SIPP Management

 

Charlotte graduated from Nottingham University with a 2:1 (Hons) degree in Ancient History and Archaeology. She started her career with Talbot & Muir and through hands on experience and professional development became a fully qualified SIPP Administrator.

 

She was offered a position at Intelligent Money in late 2012 and quickly rose to become a SIPP Manager. Further development, including achieving Certificates in Financial Services, Financial Administration, Investment Operations and Life & Pensions led to Charlotte becoming a senior SIPP manager and department leader.

 

Today Charlotte is Head of SIPP Management for Intelligent Money and is responsible for the running of her highly experienced team of SIPP Managers and Administrators.
